Hi! 👋 I’m William Watts, aka Billie. I'm a UI/UX designer in Portsmouth, UK. I design user interfaces for websites, apps, and video games.

I grew up in Hampshire, UK, and have worked in creative media since 2014, making content for platforms like YouTube and Twitch. In 2020, I began a BSc at the University of Portsmouth, where I explored a broad range of creative media disciplines, including film production, sound design, and web and mobile design. After graduating in 2023, I went on to complete an MSc in User Experience Design, specialising in user-centred design thinking and empathetic interface design.

Alongside my studies, I worked at local secondary school as Digital Media Manager, where I designed and developed a new website and refreshed the school’s logo, typography and colour scheme to create a cohesive brand. I’m still in that role today, and I also work part-time as Lead User-Interface Designer at Wickford Games, designing and building the UI for our debut PC game.

I believe good design starts with understanding people, and I’m looking for opportunities to bring that approach to UX and UI design roles.

Lead UI Designer - Wickford Games

Lead UI Designer - Wickford Games

Current lead of UI design for our debut PC game, Project Techtonic. I create menus, HUDs and in-game interfaces in Figma that balance form and function with the game’s visual identity and player needs. I also create trailers and promotional videos in Premiere Pro and After Effects, tailored to social media trends and the game’s genre, and design graphics, logos and in-game assets in Photoshop, Illustrator and Figma. I also represent the studio at promotional events, demoing the game and building relationships with players, partners and collaborators, which directly led to wishlists on Steam.

As Digital Media Manager at Warblington School, I led the full redesign and restructuring of the school website, creating an accessible, intuitive and compelling experience for both visitors and the staff who maintain it WordPress and the Divi visual builder theme. I redesigned the school’s logos and created new graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator, bringing consistent branding to the website and promotional materials. I also support the school’s IT infrastructure, covering hardware maintenance, operating system and software installation, troubleshooting, and the introduction of emerging technologies and solutions.

User Experience Design (MSc) - University of Portsmouth

For my dissertation, I designed a mobile app prototype in Figma for Zen Browser, using Jakob’s Law to carry its desktop identity into a portrait layout. With permission from Zen’s creator, I gathered 100+ questionnaire responses and ran 10 interviews with A/B testing, then analysed the findings with Thematic Analysis, User Personas and Affinity Mapping to refine the design, managing the work with AGILE workflows.

Graduating with a 2:1, this course gave me a broad, hands-on grounding across digital design and media, including film production, sound design, motion graphics, web design and mobile app design. I worked on projects from planning through to finished product using Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Figma and more, and it’s where I first developed the user-focused approach that I later took further in my MSc in User Experience Design.
